The Green-Eyed Monster Who Learned to Shine

“I am having so much fabulous fun being an author, and I want to express my deep gratitude to Cassandra The Joyful Artist. Her energy, creativity, and joy in sharing art and stories continue to inspire both writers and readers around the world. Writing is a journey of self-discovery, and there are so many more stories to come.” ~ Nero Rose

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping many people step into authorship—through mentoring, encouragement, and sharing what I’ve learned about creative courage. Helping others shine has always brought me joy. For example, helping Celeste create her children’s book, Destiny The Dragonfly, in memory of her daughter, was so beautiful and healing.

And then there was the joy of helping Naomi Barton become an audio book creator and inspiring her to write romances under her pen name. I also helped her create her COVID-inspired story.

Naomi’s first narrated audio book was my popular Mid-Life Career Rescue (Employ Yourself): How to change careers, confidently leave a job you hate, and start living a life you love, before it’s too late . I share more of Naomi’s own midlife career rescue on my blog: How One Young Mum Shifted from Burnout to Beautiful Bliss>>

“Don’t you do what you love when you retire,” one 28-year-old Naomi once said to me when I was a corporate coach and she worked for a Government agency!

But as I’ve discovered, not everyone feels comfortable with light.

I once attended an award ceremony for someone I considered a friend. When she returned to the table after accepting her prize, she looked me directly in the eye and said,

“Did you notice? I didn’t thank you in my acceptance speech.”

The comment startled me. I hadn’t expected thanks, but I was surprised by the deliberate sting in her tone. I remember wondering later, why would someone say that?

As I release my latest story, The Green-Eyed Monster Who Learned to Shine, I understand that experience differently. It was an encounter with envy—an emotion that often hides behind defensiveness, fear, or the belief that there isn’t enough success or love to go around.

The Story Behind The Green-Eyed Monster Who Learned to Shine

At its heart, this new book is a story about emotional transformation—about learning to recognize jealousy not as something to be ashamed of but as a messenger guiding us toward our own hidden desires. It’s a tale of self-empowerment, creativity, and the healing power of light.

Jealousy is one of the most misunderstood emotions. It can feel dark, uncomfortable, and unspiritual. Yet when we explore it with compassion, it becomes a doorway to deeper self-understanding. Envy reveals what we most long for but haven’t yet allowed ourselves to claim.

The green-eyed monster in my story learns that true light isn’t found by dimming someone else’s—it comes from nurturing your own glow. It’s about moving from comparison to confidence, from fear to self-acceptance.

When we stop seeing others as competition and start seeing them as mirrors reflecting what’s possible, we free ourselves to shine.

A Parable of Empowerment and Creative Freedom

The Green-Eyed Monster Who Learned to Shine is written for anyone who has ever felt overshadowed, overlooked, or afraid to take up space. It’s a modern fable for both children and adults—a story about transforming negative emotions into creative fuel.

If you’ve ever watched someone succeed and felt that uncomfortable twist of envy, this story will remind you that your feelings don’t make you bad or small. They make you human. What matters is what you do with them.

When we meet envy with curiosity and self-compassion, it becomes a guide instead of a poison. It points us toward our purpose.

Why I Wrote This Story

Every author writes from experience, and this story came from reflecting on how envy and fear can limit creative expression. Many artists, writers, and dreamers struggle with self-doubt and comparison. I wanted to write a story that turns that struggle into strength—a reminder that our shadows can become our teachers.

As an artist and author, I’ve seen both the generosity and the competitiveness that can emerge in creative circles. This story grew from a desire to celebrate collaboration over comparison—to show that true success is not about outshining others but about letting your authentic light guide the way.

Final Reflections

We all have a little green-eyed monster within us. It may whisper fears of not being enough, or it may flinch at someone else’s success. But with awareness and love, that monster can learn to shine.

When we embrace our envy as a signal of where our desires lie, we reclaim our creative power. We stop hiding, we stop comparing, and we start living with authenticity and joy.

The Green-Eyed Monster Who Learned to Shine is a celebration of that journey—from darkness to illumination, from insecurity to empowerment, from envy to love.

As I continue to write and create, I’m reminded that sharing our light doesn’t take away from anyone else’s. It makes the world brighter for us all.
