I was sixty years old, just twelve weeks from my sixty-first birthday, when Hathor found me in July 2026
Not in an ancient temple. Not in Egypt. But high above the Panamanian jungle that had already begun to heal my heart.
On the evening of the heliacal rising of the Pleiades—known to Māori in New Zealand, as Matariki, and in some ancient Egyptian traditions associated with the Seven Hathors—I looked out from my apartment and witnessed something extraordinary. A magnificent pyramid of golden light appeared in the evening sky, its luminous form seeming to point toward the emerald canopy below.
Curiosity has always been my compass. So I began researching the celestial events of that evening. My search led me to the Seven Hathors, and then to a simple question:
Who is Hathor?
That one question changed everything. For more than sixty years I had devoted myself to healing. My journey had naturally drawn me toward Isis, the great Egyptian goddess of healing, devotion and transformation. She had walked beside me through some of the most difficult seasons of my life, and she remains deeply meaningful to me.
But as I painted my Cathedral of Light series here in Panama, another truth quietly revealed itself. Healing is not found only through suffering. It is also found through devotion to joy.
Through beauty.
Through music.
Through laughter.
Through dancing.
Through the quiet majesty of trees.
Through sunlight filtering through leaves.
Through colour.
Through wonder.
As I stood beneath Panama’s living cathedral of emerald forests, I realised that perhaps joy is not the reward that comes after healing. Perhaps joy is the healing.
This little book is not intended to teach history or religion. It is a celebration of the timeless qualities Hathor has come to represent in my own life: joy, beauty, creativity, nature, music, love, and the golden heart that lives within each of us.
If these pages encourage you to pause beneath a tree, listen more closely to birdsong, dance in your kitchen, pick up a paintbrush, or simply notice beauty where you had overlooked it before, then they have fulfilled their purpose.
May they remind you, as they reminded me, that the sacred is never far away.
Sometimes it is waiting in a shaft of golden light.
Sometimes in the laughter of a friend.

In another moment of flow and divine intervention, I received an email from a collector wishing to purchase one of my paintings from The Cathedral of Light series. Brilliance also illustrates the introduction to The Golden Heart: A Journey with Hathor through Joy, Beauty and Light. She didn’t know this at the time, but true to Hathor, fell in love with the painting.
Today my one-word intention was amusement.
There is something deeply amusing about looking back and remembering how afraid I was to release The Golden Heart. I questioned whether anyone would understand it. I wondered if writing about Hathor, beauty, joy, music, trees and light would seem too unusual. I worried that people might misunderstand my intentions altogether.
And yet, as I look at the finished cover, I can’t help but smile.
The fear that once felt so real now seems almost comical.
Perhaps every meaningful creative work asks us to walk through that doorway. Not because we are certain of the outcome, but because we are willing to trust something larger than our doubts.
Leonardo wrote that the artist sees what others only catch a glimpse of. Throughout history, artists, writers and musicians have often ventured into territory that felt unfamiliar before it became accepted.
What seemed risky yesterday becomes simply… the work.
There is a delicious irony in realising that the greatest obstacle was never the book itself. It was my own hesitation.
So today I laugh gently at that earlier version of me, grateful that she found the courage to continue.
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply let our hearts speak.
And perhaps that’s exactly what The Golden Heart has been asking me to do all along.
Together, let’s keep the light burning—even in the darkest chapters.
