There’s a certain kind of art that doesn’t just speak—it growls, howls, bleeds, heals. That’s how I feel when I look at the work of Daisy Parris. Her canvases may be sweet pinks, but they don’t whisper sweet nothings; they scream truth. Raw, confrontational, vulnerable, and deeply alive—her art mirrors a kind of emotional honesty that both scares and liberates me.
As an artist who has spent years searching for peace and exploring the intersection of beauty, spirit, and soul, I’m accustomed to reaching for the light. But Daisy’s work has taught me something vital: the light is only as powerful as the darkness it rises from. Her fierce brushwork, primal colour fields, and gut-punched scrawled phrases yank emotion straight from the gut. I see pain and power in her palette. I see silence finally breaking. I see a kind of freedom I crave—not just to create without apology, but to be without apology.
I love the fact she says so much without always going black. Her palette sings with violets, yellows, spring greens and more. But her brushstrokes swoop with fury and sometimes, often, she says in words, what her painting does not, plastering them to the canvas. “Sadness comes and it goes.”

Love Everywhere, Work on Paper
Daisy Parris reminds me that it’s okay to be messy. To be angry. To feel too much. To say too much. Her canvases are like journal pages ripped from the soul and pasted on gallery walls. It’s not always beautiful in the traditional sense—but it’s real. And that, to me, is the most beautiful thing of all.
I think about the days when I was told I was “too emotional,” “too intense,” “too much.” Daisy’s art dares to be exactly that. It dares to exist on its own terms—wild, unreined, and gloriously flawed. She makes me feel less alone in the struggle to tell the truth with paint. She makes me feel brave.

She Radiates Love, Cassandra Gaisford, 2025

As a fellow woman artist navigating a world that still expects us to shrink, to be palatable, to soften our truths, I see in Daisy’s work a radical act of defiance. She paints like a woman who refuses to be tamed. And every time I see her work, I remember—I can do the same.
She doesn’t just paint pictures. She paints permission.
And that’s why Daisy Parris inspires me.

If Daisy’s work speaks to you too, tell me: What does truth look like in your art? What would you paint if you stopped trying to please?
