Today’s inspiration for you is from The Art of Life Inspiration Deck.
“Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – we haven’t time – and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.”
― Georgia O’Keeffe
Take time to behold the beauty of a flower.
Inspired by the beauty of a peony and the desire of Georgia O’Keefe to encourage us all to slow a while and behold the beauty of a flower. Created to complement the macro botanical photos of Jane Ussher who participated with me in the Return to Love, Group Exhibition, 2021 (With Jane Ussher and Grant Gallagher)- scroll to enjoy some of the memories (smack in the middle of the Covid mayhem)
This card is a lovely reminder to embrace the mindful stillness of just being and seeing. As I write I have returned from the markets where my partner gifted me a large posy of dahlias. This card has inspired me to create some paintings of them at a macro (close up level).
How might the message of this card speak to you? What can you make and take time to be or do?
This is what happens when you go to the local orchid show…. plenty of inspiration for new paintings here #orchidlover
The beauty of a flower has a profound impact on our health and wellbeing, reaching deep into our hearts and souls to nourish and heal. It is a remarkable reminder of the interconnectedness between nature and human beings. When we take the time to behold the beauty of a flower, we invite a multitude of benefits into our lives.
First and foremost, gazing at a flower can have a calming effect on our minds and bodies. In a world filled with constant stimuli and stress, the simplicity and elegance of a flower can offer a respite from the chaos. The vibrant colors, delicate petals, and intricate details of a flower captivate our senses, redirecting our attention to the present moment. As we focus on its beauty, our minds naturally quieten, allowing stress and anxiety to dissipate.
Moreover, the act of beholding a flower can promote mindfulness, bringing us into a state of heightened awareness and appreciation. It encourages us to slow down, to be fully present in the moment, and to engage our senses. As we observe a flower’s graceful movement in the breeze, inhale its delicate fragrance, and touch its velvety petals, we cultivate a deeper connection to nature. This connection nourishes our spirit, reminding us of the inherent beauty and wonder that exists in the world.
Beyond the immediate sense of calm and presence, the beauty of a flower also holds the power to uplift our mood and enhance our emotional well-being. Scientific studies have shown that exposure to natural elements, including flowers, triggers the release of endorphins and dopamine in our brains. These “feel-good” chemicals promote feelings of happiness, joy, and contentment. The sight of a flower can evoke positive emotions, soothing our souls and providing a much-needed boost during challenging times.
In addition to its emotional benefits, beholding the beauty of a flower can also have a positive impact on our physical health. Research suggests that exposure to natural elements, such as flowers, can lower blood pressure, decrease heart rate, and reduce muscle tension. This natural stress reduction not only benefits our immediate well-being but also contributes to long-term health. When we take the time to immerse ourselves in nature’s beauty, we create an environment that supports healing and restoration.
Furthermore, the beauty of a flower has the potential to inspire creativity and ignite a sense of wonder within us. The intricate patterns and colours found in nature’s artwork can spark our imagination and fuel our creative endeavours. Whether we are artists, writers, or simply enthusiasts, the beauty of a flower can serve as a muse, encouraging us to express ourselves and tap into our innate creativity.
Lastly, beholding the beauty of a flower can foster a sense of gratitude and interconnectedness. It reminds us of the fragile yet resilient nature of life and the importance of cherishing each moment. We become aware of the intricate web of life, where every living being has a role to play. This realization cultivates a sense of gratitude for the beauty and abundance that surrounds us, nurturing a positive outlook and deepening our connection to the world.
Beholding the beauty of a flower is a simple yet profound act that can significantly impact our health and well-being. Its calming effect, ability to promote mindfulness, enhance mood, and inspire creativity all contribute to a holistic sense of well-being. By taking the time to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us, we invite a sense of tranquillity, joy, and connectedness into our lives. So, let us pause, embrace the beauty of a flower, and allow its transformative power to unfold within us.
