Step Into Your Flower: Transform Passionate Anger Into Something Purposeful and Beautiful
There’s a moment in every storm when the thunder claps so loudly it rattles your very soul. For me, that storm comes whenever I feel the fire of anger burning inside me. I’m not talking about fleeting irritation; I mean that raw, passionate anger that demands action, that screams for justice, that refuses to be ignored. For years, I thought anger was destructive—a force to be silenced or shoved into the corners of my mind. But I’ve come to realize that anger, like a storm, can nourish the soil. It can transform barren ground into a garden if you’re brave enough to step into your flower and bloom.
Let me take you back to a pivotal moment. I was furious—red-faced, heart-pounding, and trembling with the sheer force of it. Someone I trusted had betrayed me in a way that cut to the core. I wanted to scream, cry, and throw something, but instead, I grabbed my brushes. The canvas became my battlefield, and with every stroke, I poured out the anger, the hurt, and the frustration. By the time I stepped back, I was no longer looking at rage—I was looking at a flower. Bright, bold, and unapologetically alive.
That was the day I realized anger could be beautiful if you allow it to bloom into something meaningful.

The Flower Girl, 2023, Cassandra Gaisford
When I talk about “stepping into your flower,” I mean taking that fiery energy inside you and channeling it into growth. Flowers, after all, come from seeds that are buried deep in the dark. Anger can feel like that—a heavy, suffocating weight pressing down. But just like a seed, when you press into it, when you face it head-on, it can crack open and give birth to something extraordinary.
Denying anger doesn’t extinguish it—it only lets it simmer until it boils over. Instead, sit with it. Feel it fully. Ask yourself: “What is this anger trying to tell me?” Anger often points to a value that’s been violated or a deep passion that’s been ignored.
For me, it’s painting. For you, it might be writing, singing, gardening, or even building something with your hands. Creativity is one of the most powerful ways to channel anger. It’s a form of alchemy—turning pain into art, into something that can inspire or heal.
Anger is destructive only if we let it be. Instead of directing your energy toward revenge or bitterness, use it to build. Build a movement, a relationship, or even just a moment of beauty. I’ve seen the angriest people create the most profound change when they turned their focus outward instead of inward.
Here’s the magic: flowers don’t apologize for blooming. They don’t dim their colors to make others comfortable. When you take the passion behind your anger and use it to fuel something beautiful, you’re stepping into your fullest self. You’re blooming, unapologetically.
Now, whenever I feel that storm brewing, I welcome it. I know it’s there to water the seeds I’ve planted. I lean into the discomfort, knowing that on the other side, there’s growth.
You can do this too. The next time you feel the fire rising, don’t be afraid. Grab your brush, your pen, or even your spade, and let it lead you. Step into your flower and bloom.
Trust me, the world needs your colors.
In this video, I’m sharing some of the techniques and workings of my abstract artwork, “Step into Your Flower.” I am working on a large circular board with a diameter of 81 cm. This work is part of my “Think Pink series” and my book by the same name.
This video is about how to get started using your emotions to spark the creative process. In the beginning, I was feeling angry about something. As always, I like to transform passionate anger into something purposeful and beautiful. You’ll see me add in layers of several painting sessions and continue playfully and intuitively.
This may surprise you, it did me, but I’ve discovered I’m equal parts love and hate. Maybe we all are, but some of us channel our hates into making the world a better place. Others, well…others are haters, not lovers!
It turns out that my hate list provides fantastic creative inspiration, turning my hates into love. For example, I once created a series of ‘ugly’ paintings as part of a creative challenge. “Writing is the superpower of humankind. It is our truest form of magic.
Writing allows you to conjure up something of value where nothing previously existed. It costs little for you to write down the lessons of your life and yet those few minutes spent writing can be life-altering for the right reader. As I once saw it put: “there is someone out there with a wound in the exact shape of your words.”
Furthermore, writing is the foundation of nearly every technology and innovation because we have to record what we know before we can build upon it. And these innovations are passed down from generation to generation, allowing our children to inherit a richer intellectual fortune than what we were born into. The world is richer because we write and nobody is made poorer in the process.”
~ James Clear

Anger and love inspired the creation of my Art of Life Inspiration Deck which I created during the COVID-19 pandemic years. The cards are sold out now, but the thoughts and strategies have been expanded into my book:
